Val Hoyle (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Oregon's 4th Congressional District. She assumed office on January 3, 2023. Her current term ends on January 3, 2025.
Hoyle (Democratic Party, Working Families Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Oregon's 4th Congressional District. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022. She advanced from the Democratic primary on May 17, 2022.
Hoyle was the Oregon Commissioner of Labor and Industries from 2019 to 2022. She is also a former Democratic member of the Oregon House of Representatives, representing District 14 from 2009 to 2017. She was first appointed to the chamber on September 23, 2009, to replace Chris Edwards (D), who was appointed to the Oregon State Senate.
On July 7, 2015, Hoyle announced that she was stepping down as majority leader in order to run for secretary of state in 2016. On May 17, 2016, she was defeated in the Democratic primary by Brad Avakian.
Val Hoyle was born in California and lives in Springfield, Oregon. Hoyle graduated from Merrimack High School. She earned a B.A. in political science from Emmanuel College in 1992. Her career experience includes working as a director at United Way of Lane County, a policy fellow at Wayne Morse Center for Law and Politics, and a commissioner at the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries.
